洋將在中華職棒佔有非常重要的角色，職棒元年（1990年）開打前曾經統一舉行洋將測試
與選秀，草創初期各隊最多可註冊5名，每場可同時上場3名，三商虎由康雷、哥雅、鷹俠
組成的「外籍三劍客」打線，迄今仍為球迷津津樂道。

1997年台灣大聯盟開打，中職因本土與外籍球星流失造成戰力失調，同意放寬洋將註冊人
